When I created my audio drama Wyrd Woman, I knew I wanted music as a central part. Through a Creative Commons license, I was able to use the Ghosts albums from Nine Inch Nails. I loved working with music as a medium so much it encouraged me to continue that with Midwest Weird. And, to create my own music for future series.
So with A Woman is a God, I wrote all original instrumental songs. I based them all around piano, the instrument I'm most comfortable with, and the instrument that can be the most haunting and beautiful and all the feels.
Each of Shannon's friends gets a theme song, inspired in some part by their personality. Each major action in a day's installment gets a score. And more.
One song featured in A Woman is a God is an instrumental cover of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day." And while the full album is on Spotify and other streamers, this cover is only available here.
I love this song by Lou Reed. It's so beautiful and haunting, and it felt like the perfect addition to a key conversation in Part 6 of A Woman is a God. For the instrumental version, I wanted to strip it down, but also enhance the underlying darkness that makes the song that much more beautiful. Hope you enjoy.
